We already own the game, we don't get charged for updates (surprisingly yet in today's world, and thankfully), therefore, even though occasionally new people buy the game on console, it just is not enough financially to cover the cost that they spent on reclaiming the console versions rights, along with hiring a new studio to port updates, AND be able to make a profit. Not only that, but every update from the moment they hire a new studio to port it, up until the game stops receiving updates, will COST TheFunPimps money to port each update. Now in order for the Console version to receive updates, they would have to re-hire another studio to do the porting (which quite frankly is unfair to TheFunPimps, after already procuring such a deal and should be past that stage), and entrust them with Console rights of the game. Later down the line when Telltale went down, TheFunPimps had to spend (I believe $1.5m, anyone can Google though, I haven't read the article in awhile) in order to BUY BACK THEIR OWN GAME on the Console (how ironic and sad, honestly). In doing so, apparently they trusted Telltale with 7DTD's console rights of the game. This costed them quite a bit to put the game on console procuring this deal with Telltale. TheFunPimps hired Telltale to do a port for a console version of the game from PC, since internally their company was inept to do so. If you're interested in an in-depth analysis, then here is why for people that think it's bullshit that "TFP doesn't update their own game on console". No, sadly the game will not be updated until it is nearly complete. In any case, nothing can happen before the PC version is done. The only good news is TFP is willing to offer some kind of deal to people who already have the game but the details of that are not entirely theirs to make. Any future 7DTD console release will have to be a new SKU. We are exploring all options that would eventually deliver a new version of 7 Days to consoles but this would likely happen after the PC version has gone gold and could end up being an entirely new product or on the next console.īeing as how current PC builds have broken current console savegames (a dealbreaker for both systems) the video game you now have CANNOT be updated. With Sony and Microsoft, no matter how small, any update has to go through a rigorous testing/submission process.Īs you can see, this is not an easy problem to solve. įull console ports cost into the millions of dollars, not to mention the restrictions the platform holders have on not breaking saved games which would be inevitable given our current framework and the technical challenges associated with porting a resource intensive game like 7 Days to consoles.
